Google add another feather to their hat

GoogleGoogle Chrome was launched as a beta on Tuesday and has already created a lot of interest. Google have provided a good illustrated guide to the story behind the development process for those interested in the magic conjoured up.

googlechromesketchGoogle have been backing the Firefiox browser for many years now, but Chrome doesn't seem to compete directly with Firefox, but instead offer an alternative set of browsing tools. From a non technical view, Chrome appears to be a clean and simple new browser with some modern web application features.

Chrome offers user to select which search engines they prefer to use, it doesn't record or track you online activity (except by offering a beta experience connection) and isolates tabs to allow each site to run independently in other tabs. Unfortunately Chrome does not support existing Firefox extensions, but it's early days so it will be very interesting to see how these areas develop.

The user interface has been minimised nicely and offer fast browsing. With Chrome being an open source offering, it has all the ingredients of being the next big browser. For now Freshpoint Media will continue to focus on Firefox and Internet Explorer, but we'll be keeping an close eye on the new kid on the block.
